Spring ... time of uneasieness

I love Spring time. It's the time when everything springs forth with new life. The trees bud, flowers bloom, animals come out, birds fly and sing ... and of course - MOLD begins to bloom. No I don't like that, but it is a natural part of the environmental flow. So how can I enjoy the beauty of Spring without falling prey to my new adversary, mold? That's a good question. I've not really found a good answer yet.

One can don a breathing mask, but I've found them to be of little help - plus when you wear such masks you get two negative returns: 1) you looks like you're some sort of medical outcast and 2) they are quite uncomfortable. You sweat and chaffe in them; very unpleasant. Most people just choose to stay inside instead of putting themselves through the ordeal.

So - despite the nice weather and welcome warmth from winter ... spring is a very mixed-bag for those of us who suffer from mold.

Winter .. What Winter .. ??

I have waited all year long for a shot at going outside. To do this meant we had to have temperatures in the range of 20F or lower. Mold will continue to cast spores even down as low as 25F. But aside from a few days back in mid-November 2005, we've been unseasonably warm. In years past this would have been a real boon! I'd have hit the streams and farm ponds for some mid-winter fishing fun. But that won't happen anytime soon: not so long as I have to dodge mold spores.

So... what happens now: with a warm winter going into Spring? Will mold counts soar early? Will this be a 'really bad year' ? I don't know yet. But I do know this - I've been locked up in our condo for far too long. My level of 'shack nasties' is growing extremely high !!

Please- send COLD WEATHER so I can live outside - for at least a while!

It's BAAAACCCK!

For nearly 4 months I was completely free of the painful rash and eczema that manifests on my 'bumper' when exposed to mold. Oh, how nice it was, too. But as all things do - they come to an end. Well, it didn't have to, but it came back to my 'end' .. ': (

Now I am dealing with the painful discomfort that comes with the rash. It also means that I am once again forced to remain indoors. I also will be limited to what I can wear and when I can even go anywhere. O' the pain!

This is a real puzzle. I've been staying inside. My wife and I have rarely gone for walks - and when I do go out I wear the mask. So - I don't know what could have caused this to return. I am at my wits end. As nice as they are - the docs aren't much help either.

I guess it's back to the cremes and steroids... not what I wanted to do again.
